One of Ghana’s favorite musicians, Adina Thembi, has revealed that she went through a life-threatening condition after being diagnosed with 16 fibroids.
According to the Ghanaian singer, the fibroid condition was first suspected by her cousin who was a nurse. She reveals an initial scan found she had eight fibroids, but the story later changed.
Adina reports that she relied on the gym to reduce the bulge she spotted on her belly, but despite her many, she didn’t see any positive impact.
I suspected I might have fibroids when I was working out, but I always had a lump in my lower abdomen. I would work out and make sure I was eating right, but there was no difference. You will notice that I would lose weight the way I wanted to, but only that part had a little bit of swelling,” she said.

During the chat with GhanaWeb’s Elsie Lamar, he continued “that’s when I stopped working out because at that time it was something else. I noticed that I was gaining more and more weight and the bulge was becoming more and more visible. I had a cousin who was a nurse and I laid down one day and she was like, yeah, it’s definitely fibroids because she could see it was peeling off.”
According to Adina, at some point, a doctor told her that she was pregnant. “So I went to a hospital to get it checked out and have a scan. The first doctor I went to said I was pregnant and I told him I would know if I was. He said I have huge fibroids and I need to have surgery right away. It scared me. The way he said it put me off. I didn’t like its atmosphere,” he said.
“So I went to another hospital and they found that I had 8 fibroids. They said I had to take it out for where they were. Some of them were around my ovaries. So, this is what the doctor at Tema Women’s Hospital found. Dr. Yaba. He got me through it. I stayed with her because I liked the way she spoke to me. I didn’t like the first doctor.” she added.
Recounting how she got rid of them, she told the host that “I booked a surgery and had the surgery and they ended up taking out 16. Some are too big. Some like an egg or a nut. But there was one that was really huge and I asked myself if this really came out of me. these things fed on my blood and so I became very anemic for a long time. I’m glad it’s out now. I have been back to the hospital for a check up and he is no longer there. I hope and pray it stays that way. She added.
