President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Saturday invited Ghanaians to attend the final funeral of the late Ga Manye, Naa Deday Omadolu III, in Accra. I joined them.
It was a solemn event featuring tributes, prayers, cultural displays, and performances by the Asafoatsemei and Asafoaniemei (male and female warriors).
The event was also attended by Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, the diplomatic corps, traditional officials and other dignitaries.
The Office of the President made a cash donation of GHS 100,000 to support the state of Georgia as officials paid their last respects to the beloved Queen Mother.
The government also donated various beverages in line with the traditions and customs of the people.
Ga Manye, known in his private life as Na Deday Abla, passed away on December 26, 2022 at the ripe old age of 88.
Appointed in 1963, she demonstrated Gau customs and an extraordinary sense of fairness, while pursuing the welfare of women.
President Nana Akufo-Addo delivered a eulogy ahead of the funeral, describing Naa Omadolu as a “loyal, hard-working and long-serving member of Ga State.”
“She was a model of traditional dignity and grace.”
Her reign was marked by a dedication to public service and volunteerism with an emphasis on promoting peace, education, and opportunities for young people, especially girls.
The event saw economic activity in the Accra Central Business District (CBD) come to a halt and stores closed to reflect the mourning situation.
This follows instructions from the Ga Traditional Council.
In accordance with funeral arrangements, a Thanksgiving service will be held at the Anglican Church of Holy Trinity Cathedral on Sunday, October 29th, followed by a traditional rites.
