Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team categorically denies claims that fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer candidate Ken Agyapong was offered $800 million to withdraw from the presidential primary. did.
Dr Bawumia’s spokesperson, Dr Gideon Boako, stressed that the allegations are baseless and should be ignored by party representatives and the nation at large.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 30, Dr. Boako revealed that the Vice President has not had a private meeting with Assin Central since the beginning of the contest.
He further emphasized the falsity of these claims, saying that Dr. Bawumia had not instructed anyone to negotiate with Kennedy Agyapong or his agents regarding the contest.
“Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has not personally met Mr. Kennedy Agyapong since he entered the race. I have not instructed anyone to meet with me.”
“The Vice President and his team believe that this $800 million claim is completely ridiculous and shows a gross disregard for the intelligence of Ghanaians.”
Dr Boako expressed confidence in Dr Bawumia’s prospects for a resounding victory on Saturday, November 4th.
“Dr. Bawumia is confident that, with God’s blessing, he will resoundingly defeat Mr. Kennedy Agyapong on November 4 and has never wanted to withdraw from the contest.”
In an interview with Time FM on Sunday, October 29, 2023, Mr Ken Agyapong claimed that he was offered $800 million to withdraw from Dr Bawumia’s election campaign.
However, he maintained that he rejected the offer in the interest of party representatives and the Ghanaian people as a whole.
“For the love of Ghana and the delegation, I have said I would never do that, but does he know how many people have approached me? The amount they offered is $800 million. You should ask Mr. Oppong Bio if that’s what they’re saying, but I said, “No, I’m not resigning, Ghana first.” In 2016, you couldn’t buy a pickup. Why can you offer me $800 million today? That’s why I said I wouldn’t resign…” he said.
