Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister wasted no time in responding after her brother’s rival Lionel Messi won a record eighth Ballon d’Or – dropping a hint of her feelings on social media
Cristiano Ronaldo’s sister has reacted furiously to her brother’s arch-rival Lionel Messi securing a record eighth Ballon d’Or, with many believing the ‘GOAT’ debate is now over.
Messi was crowned the best footballer in the world for the eighth time on Monday night, capping off an unforgettable year for the Argentina forward. Messi’s World Cup win in Qatar last December was the crowning achievement of his career and set the stage behind his record-breaking Ballon d’Or win.
The win means Messi has two more Ballon d’Or trophies than rival Ronaldo, with whom his career has been intertwined for more than a decade. For years fans have debated who is the greatest player of their generation – and indeed in the history of the game – with many pointing to the Ballon d’Or as proof that the debate is over.
But Ronaldo’s sister Katia Aveiro believes Messi has been “given” his Ballon d’Or and doesn’t really deserve it. In the wake of Monday’s ceremony, a Ronaldo fan page on Instagram posted a picture of the forward, now at Al-Nassr, holding his five Ballon d’Or trophies.

The caption of the post read: “Deserved, not given.” – This is a clear blow to Messi. Aveiro liked the post and commented with a series of clapping emojis, confirming she agreed with the sentiment.
It wasn’t just Ronaldo’s sister who seemed unhappy with the results, as Ronaldo himself took to Instagram to suggest he was not impressed with Messi’s latest achievement. After Spanish newspaper AS published a video on their social media page in which an insider claimed Messi should only have five Ballon d’Ors and was lucky to win the other three when they deserved to go elsewhere.
Journalist Tomas Roncero claimed in the video: “Hello friends. What we knew happened, they were going to give Messi another Ballon d’Or.
“He went to retire in Miami, even though he already looked like he retired to PSG to prepare for the World Cup. He won the World Cup, yes, well, but with six penalties… The World Cup was ten months ago, it’s november
“Messi has eight Ballon d’Or, he should have had five. He has the Iniesta/Xavi Ballon d’Or, Lewandowski who won six trophies in one season and Haaland who was the top scorer.”
Ronaldo couldn’t hide his delight at seeing this claim and liked the post before commenting on a series of smiley faces from his verified account.
