Warren Zaire-Emery has been booed by his Paris Saint-Germain team-mates after being told he has lined up Didier Deschamps for the upcoming Euro 2024 qualifiers against Greece and Gibraltar.
The 17-year-old has been in stunning form for Luis Enrique’s PSG this season, breaking into the first team despite his youth and the talent pool at the club.
Considered by some to even be the breakout star of the Ligue 1 champions, he has shown himself to be a fearsome talent beyond his years in central midfield.
In 14 games so far this season in all competitions, he has scored twice and provided five assists and will now have the chance to show what he can do on the international stage.
In an emotional social media video posted on X by PSG, Zaire-Emery can be seen being joined by his team-mates – including Kylian Mbappe – who were keen to share the moment with their young colleague.
First-team superstars Mbappe and best friend Achraf Hakimi appear to lead the way as a group of PSG players storm Zaire-Emery’s room as he watches Deschamps’ team announcement and throw him on his bed.
The group then gathers over the young man shouting and celebrating his moment, before finally letting him up.
Zaire-Emery then receives a handshake and a hug from Bape, as well as other team-mates, with a proud if not embarrassed look on his face.
Born and raised in the Parisian suburb of Montreuil, Zaire-Emery’s graduation to the national team from childhood is perhaps of little surprise.
However, he could become the youngest star for Les Bleus in more than 100 years since the First World War if he earns minutes in the international break.
Eduardo Camavinga currently holds the national record at 17 and nine months, with Zaire-Emery having the chance to eat that feat by a month.
Of course, he is no stranger to making his mark at a young age, having made his PSG bow aged 16 in the opening game of the 2022-23 campaign.
France top Group B, six points clear of the Netherlands after six matches, with a perfect record and face Gibraltar in their group as well as a clash with Greece in the upcoming break.
