Two brothers were reportedly killed when a team of security personnel allegedly launched a gun attack at a local mining site in Tepa, Ashanti Region.
The deceased, Abdul Sameed Razak and Hashmir Usman, were protecting the mine site with others when security forces raided the area.
Four other people were injured, two seriously.
In what appeared to be a raid on illegal miners, about 80 security guards set fire to mining equipment at the site, including chan fans and other civil engineering equipment.
Witnesses said two unarmed civilians were shot dead as they tried to approach the task force seeking friendly dialogue.
The deceased brother sustained gunshot wounds to the head and neck.
The incident is said to have happened on Friday afternoon at Mfante, a suburb of Tepa in Ahafo Ano North district.

Their bodies were later deposited at Tepa Government Hospital.
It remains unclear what prompted the gun attack.
Samet, 35, leaves behind a wife and four children, and his younger brother Hashmir, 25.
The sister of the deceased who heard the story said, joy news Tensions are said to be high in the community as young people in the area seek to avenge their deaths.
Meanwhile, Forestry Commission officials from the area who are said to have taken part in the attack have fled to take shelter elsewhere.
The families are demanding justice for their deceased relatives.
