Brisbane Heat 184 for 5 (Redmayne 70, Heath 51, Ismail 2-22) won Hobart Hurricanes 131 (B Smith 28, Jonassen 4-20) by 53 runs
After being dispatched to the Allan Border Field on Wednesday, the Heat’s impressive total of 184 for 5 was built by a 92-run stand between Redmayne and Heath for the second wicket. Redmayne played the anchor role scoring 70 off 53 balls while Heath hit 51 off just 26, including five fours and three sixes.
Heath got her first chance up the order and made the most of it with a powerful strike. The visitors had a shock on the field to start the innings and fell for five catches. Heath was a beneficiary. Given the early life, the 22-year-old was in an aggressive mood.
The power square of the wicket came to the fore with powerful pulls and cuts. She was also strict with the spinners and lifted Ruth Johnston for consecutive sixes down the ground.
“There were discussions about putting me in early during the powerplay to try and play that batting role,” Heath told AAP.
“I like to create momentum and chase the ball.
“They backed me to go out and play my style of cricket so it was good to get a few runs and a win.”
Player of the match Redmayne has recaptured the form she was in last season for the Heat when she was the team’s leading scorer, notching her second half-century in three games. He drove elegantly, cut and pulled clinically and marked the strike.
Shabnim Ismail was impressive for the visitors taking 2 for 22 from four overs.
Lizelle Lee (24 off 18) and Bryony Smith (28 off 19) gave the Hurricanes an impressive start early in the run, but once they were dismissed wickets fell regularly.
The win saw the Heat move to 14 points, level with Perth at the top of the table.
