The ruler of Mampurugu, Nah Abdullahi Mahami Shariga, has called on the Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to visit Bawuku and help unite the various factions in the long-standing conflict.
Bawuku has been plagued by conflict for many years, with unrest affecting economic activity and other areas of life.
During Dr. Bawumia’s visit to Nairi earlier this week after his election as the flag bearer of the NPP, Nairi assured the Vice President that he would not hesitate to visit Bauku and meet with stakeholders including chiefs to spread peace and unity. I urged him to do so.
The Nairi people gave the vice president the title of chieftain, Viganna, which means “one who does not discriminate.”
Mr. Nairi said that having learned of Dr. Bawumia’s unifying qualities, he is optimistic that the Vice President, if elected, will be a President for all who does not discriminate and that is the title. It was the origin of
Mr. Nairi explained that the title is appropriate for the Vice President as he has shown unity as a leader for all people, regardless of religion or ethnicity, and urged him to continue to unite people.
Mr Nairi stressed that as President, Dr Bawumia has the responsibility to unify Ghana and mediate its many conflicts. He therefore called on the Vice President to not hesitate to visit the chiefs and people of Ghana, especially Bawuku, and try to promote peace among all factions, as unity is his quality.
In response, Dr. Bawumia thanked the Nairi people and their elders for their prayers and encouragement, adding that they would continue to preach unity for the good of all.
“If I am elected, in allah, I will be everyone’s president. For the Fantes, Ashanti, Ewes, Kusasi, Furafura, Combas and all other tribes of Ghana. We are one people,” Dr. Bawumia said.
Dr. Bawumia will be joined by NPP National Chairman Mr. Stephen Ntim, Majority Leader Mr. Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Ashanti Regional Chairman Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Wontumi), Abu Zinapur National Land and Natural Resources; Minister, Minister of Youth and Sports Mustafa Ussif, and a number of parliamentarians accompanied him. From both the northern and southern parts of the country.
