Former Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has praised Hungarian midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai, who joined the Reds this summer, for his ability on the pitch.
Oxlade-Chamberlain joined the Anfield outfit in 2017 and spent six years at the Merseyside club before leaving in August. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the Englishman spoke about Dominik Szoboszlai’s performances since arriving at Anfield.
The former Arsenal midfielder praised the Hungarian captain and said their playing styles are similar. He also said that Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold believes Szoboszlai’s shooting is better than Oxlade-Chamberlain’s, who was known for his shooting ability. He said (via Sky Sports):
“I’ve really enjoyed watching Dominik Szoboszlai. It’s something he’s taken from my role and I’m really impressed with how good a player he is and how he plays the game, how I always want to play the game.”
“I think he’s got so much ability, physicality and just his character as a player. I think that’s what we needed in there. He’s been very, very good. Trent tells me a lot about how good he is, too. Trent tells his Ta his shots are better than mine. He has everything.”
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left Liverpool to join Turkish club Besiktas on a free transfer this summer. Since joining the Super Lig side, the Englishman has scored three goals and provided one assist in 12 league appearances.
Dominik Szoboszlai was signed by the Reds for a transfer fee of £60 million ($76 million) from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The 23-year-old has made 20 appearances for Liverpool this season and has scored four goals.
Liverpool could miss Joel Matip for rest of season through injury: Reports
Liverpool centre-back Joel Matip could be ruled out for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign after suffering a knee ligament injury in the Reds’ win over Fulham last weekend, according to reports.
Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Fulham 4-3 on Sunday (3 December). However, the 32-year-old was substituted in the second half as Ibrahim Konate came on in the 69th minute. After the match, it was revealed that the experienced defender had suffered an injury which could sideline him for a long period.
The German coach has stated that the defender will undergo a few scans before the doctors give their final opinion. He said (via The Guardian):
“When the doctor comes in and says, ‘It doesn’t look great’ … but we have to wait for the scans and the scan isn’t here yet. You can imagine it doesn’t look great. It’s never good news.”
In addition to Joel Matip, other important names from the Liverpool squad such as Andrew Robertson, Diogo Jota, Thiago Alcantara and others are out due to injuries.
