The Ghana Electronic Communications Investment Fund has culminated in its fifth edition of its activities.th Cohort of Digital Skills Training for Citizens under the Digital Transformation Center (DTC) Project in Bonwire, Ashanti Region.
The last three weeks of training in 2023 began on the 20th.th Ends November 6thth December 2023.
Speaking at the event, Alhaji Faisal Issahak Gbanjiri, Director of Management and Human Resources, GIFEC, representing the administrators, spoke about the need for meaningful digitalization through various ICT capacity building initiatives for the people, especially those from underserved communities. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to strengthening inclusion. .
Specifically, the current training cohort under DTC, which is being carried out in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Cisco and the Norwegian Agency, will train 2,850 people in 73 GIFEC Community ICT Centers (CICs). He said the people had received training. Development Corporation (NORAD).
He further added, βAt DTC, approximately 17,450 citizens have been trained primarily in Cisco-certified beginner and intermediate ICT courses, and we aim to reach a total of 20,000 citizens by the end of the project next year.β β he added.
Alhaji Gbanjiri said that in 2020, the training of 209 trainers, 30 coding clubs established with 1,260 club members, training of 20 trainers to provide basic computer skills training for the visually impaired, etc. He highlighted other significant successes that have been recorded since the inception of the DTC project in 2017.

He urged all participants across the country to utilize the skills acquired through this valuable opportunity to improve their business, employability and life in general to reap financial benefits.
Alex Boahoma, ITU National Project Director, highlighted the nature of the project and the reasons for its support.
She asserted that ITU’s strategic decision to prioritize women’s empowerment is rooted in the firm belief that inclusivity is the key to strengthening Ghana’s digital ecosystem.
βThe overarching objective of this project is to enable Ghanaians, especially those from marginalized communities, to actively participate and thrive in the digital economy. It also builds young people’s digital skills through a comprehensive training program. We also aim to strengthen the workforce and improve the employability of young people.β
He congratulated all the beneficiaries of this project and looked forward to hearing life-changing stories from them in the near future.
Other speakers at the event included representatives from parliament and the city executive, who encouraged participants to adopt the skills they acquired to improve their livelihoods.
The delegation from GIFEC also paid a courtesy visit to Nana Bobby Ansah II, Traditional Ruler of Bonwire Traditional Area, and thanked the organizers, especially CIC, for organizing such a thoughtful event. He expressed his gratitude to GIFEC for equipping it with the latest equipment to provide ICT services. the needs of youth in the community;
