The Accra High Court has postponed the hearing of a case involving former Health Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaa until January 11, 2024.
This was requested by the Office of Special Prosecutors (OSP) during Friday’s proceedings.
While filing the motion for a postponement, OSP explained that it was awaiting the completion of an investigative report from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) regarding Cecilia Dapaa.
In October this year, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) collaborated with the Office of Special Prosecutor (OSP) in a collaboration aimed at digging deeper into the matter of former Health Minister Cecilia Dapaa and her husband Daniel Osei Kufuor. We carried out the following initiatives.
The collaborative movement, which spans both Ghana and the United States, aims to uncover the legalities surrounding the wealth amassed by Dapaa and his associates.
The OSP then requested an adjournment of the case entitled “Special Prosecutor V Cecilia Dapar & Daniel Osei Kufuor (Civil Case) FT/0074/2023” regarding the freezing and seizure of the former minister’s bank accounts.
The presiding judge pointed out the importance of the FBI’s involvement and approved the prosecution’s request.
However, the judge directed OSP to complete its review of the motion by the next hearing.
background
OSP accused the embattled former minister of failing to declare his income and assets.
According to the statement of crime filed in the High Court on Friday, October 6, OSP said Cecilia Dapaa had 30 days to respond to the notice requesting her to declare her assets, which was served on Monday, July 24, as provided in the OSP Act. He said he did not respond.
OSP claims this is a violation of OSP law and she should be punished.
However, Cecilia Dapaa’s lawyer also filed an injunction against OSP.
According to court documents filed Tuesday, Oct. 10, attorneys said the former minister would suffer irreparable harm if OSP is not retrained.
