From January 1, 2024, ride-hailing companies such as Uber, Yango, and Bolt will have to pay taxes in Ghana.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) made this announcement, highlighting the obligation of commercial vehicle owners to pay income tax on a quarterly basis pursuant to Regulation 22 of the 2016 Regulations, Li 2244.
Additionally, the Revenue Management Act of 2016 (Act 915), as amended, allows the Secretary to issue written instructions to provide required information to taxpayers or connect digital systems to the Secretary’s monitoring platform to provide accurate information to the State. You are authorized to request guarantees for tax payments. (Sections 1, 33, and 35).
The GRA is therefore calling on all ride-hailing companies operating in Ghana to update their digital platforms to reflect the payment of Vehicle Income Tax (VIT) on both new and existing vehicles.
The guidelines these companies should follow are:
1. Request a soft copy of the VIT sticker from the vehicle owner.
2. Verify sticker authenticity with GRA.
3. Submit a list of all vehicles on the platform to GRA on a quarterly basis.
It is important for all ride-hailing companies to note that these requirements will come into full effect from Monday, January 1, 2024. To comply with the new regulations, owners of ride-hailing vehicles operating in Ghana must register their vehicles at one of the GRA offices. , using the shortcode *222# he will be able to make VIT payments.
