Odododiodu Member of Parliament, Edwin Ni Lante Vanderpuy, has expressed concern about the influence of partisan politics in local governance in Ghana.
According to him, there is a need to increase decentralization and reduce political interference within communities.
“Our politics has become very divisive and discriminatory,” Vanderpuy told City TV.
Vanderpuy noted that this division also affects collaboration, as residents often refuse to participate when organizers are from different political parties.
He held the Election Commission and the Ministry of Information responsible for this disconnect by neglecting local elections.
“Our EC will go to sleep after conducting presidential and parliamentary elections. One year and six months later, before they wake up from their sleep and remember that there will be parliamentary elections. They will end with parliamentary elections. . They will go to bed again. Activities will intensify in six months until the presidential and parliamentary elections.”
The lawmaker said, “Their job is to conduct elections, so the process of holding elections in this country, all the processes, are well-constructed to ensure that we don’t become an absolute negligent.” “We must do so,” he emphasized. We held this district-level election. ”
Vanderpuy pointed out that the Information Services Department’s failure to properly promote district-level elections was responsible for low voter turnout and fewer participants.
