Recently, Ghanaian artists Black Sherif, Samini and SmallGod launched a campaign called #PlayGhana to boost the consumption of Ghanaian music.
Nigerian broadcaster and afrobeat enthusiast Adesope Olajide popularly known as Shopsydoo has commented on the initiative. According to him, the initiative first started in Nigeria in 2003 and has helped boost airplay for Nigerian music.

He claimed that then, a law was passed that mandated that radio stations play 60-70% Nigerian music.

Adesope Shopsydoo talks about banning foreign music
He was speaking in an interview on Hitz FM’s popular show Daybreak Hitz. He explained further in the interview that the initiative gave producers more opportunities to have more concerts and artists to get more airtime.
The broadcaster also claimed that he used to send money to Nigeria for his people to buy CDs and send them abroad. This was all part of his efforts to promote Nigerian music abroad.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Black Sherif, Samini, Smallgod and other artistes have launched the #PlayGhana campaign to boost the consumption of Ghanaian music.
The stakeholders aim to boost the consumption of Ghanaian music by the diaspora who will be visiting Ghana for various events in December dubbed Detty December.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, the Director of the Creative Arts Agency, Gyankroma Akufo-Addo, said almost every sector of the economy booms at Christmas, but music seems to be lagging behind. He expressed optimism that the campaign will significantly boost awareness of Ghanaian music.
