Accra, December 27, GNA Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia said on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumi, former Chairman of the Pentecostal Church, passed away on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 In response, he expressed his condolences to the Pentecostal Church and his family.
Dr Bawumia wrote in a Facebook post: “It is with sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Apostle Dr. Michael Kwabena Ntumi, who served as President of the Pentecostal Church from 1998 to 2008.
“Apostle Dr. Michael Ntumi is an inspiration to humanity and deserves the honor of being called “God’s Chosen General.”
“My wife Samira Bawumia and I extend our deepest condolences to the immediate family and the Pentecostal Church.
“May the souls of selfless men rest in the bosom of the Lord.”
The news of the death of Apostle Dr. Ntumi was announced on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, by the General Secretary of the Pentecostal Church, Apostle Samuel Gyau Obuobi, through a press statement.
He was 65 years old.
“We ask for your prayers and prayers for the widow and family,” the release reads.
Apostle Dr. Michael Ntumi served as a teacher in Yendi in the 1980s before becoming a deacon and elder in the church.
He married his wife Martha at the age of 24.
He began full-time ministry at the age of 26 in a Pentecostal church.
He was called to the apostolate at the age of 33 and six years later was elected the fourth President of the Church.
After serving for two terms (10 years), he handed over the position to Apostle Professor Opoku Onyina.
Apostle Ntumi is known for overcoming many challenges in his life, including being taken hostage in rebel territory during the Liberian civil war in the 1990s.
He also faced other life-threatening attacks, ranging from physical assault to poisoning and paralysis, which led to him being confined to a wheelchair.
The Venerable Man of God served Pentecostal churches in Liberia and the Ivory Coast.
The general secretary of the church appealed to the public to respect the privacy of the bereaved family during this period of loss.
“Apostle Dr. Ntumi was not only a man honored by God, but also an inspirational leader. His commitment to the things of God is unparalleled and his commitment to our church and community is unparalleled. His contribution was significant,” the statement said.
“He left an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him. We honor his selfless service, leadership, and commitment to spreading the word of God. We are deeply grateful for your tireless dedication,” the statement added.
He was born on September 22, 1958 in Dadieso, Oti region.
He leaves behind a widow and six adult children.
