The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is set to implement the 10% withholding tax on gross winnings from all lotteries from January 2024 after a 5-month delay.
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) and Private Lottery Operators (PLOS) have been given a six-month extension to prepare and implement the tax, which is due to expire at the end of December 2023.

The authority instructed the NLA and PLO to start implementation of the 10% withholding tax, from January 1, 2024.

The GRA stressed that compliance with tax laws is mandatory and failure to do so is an offense under section 78 of the Revenue Management Act 2016 (Act 915).
The GRA started applying a 10% withholding tax on all gross gaming winnings on 15 August 2023.
The tax is charged on winnings earned after each win, replacing the existing rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) of 15% on each bet.
GRA redemption from betting tax
The Ghana Revenue Authority has collected GH¢15 million in the first two months from the recent tax on sports betting profits.
The Authority said it is targeting GH¢60 million by the end of the current football season.
The GRA introduced a 10% withholding tax on betting on August 15, 2023, to raise about GH400 million annually.

No new tax for bloggers
The GRA clarified earlier that no new tax is being created for bloggers, brand influencers and MCs.
The Authority said it is trying widens the tax net ensuring that the incomes of bloggers, influencer brands and MCs are taxed.
While the GRA has denied speculation that it is creating a new tax, it has stressed that all revenue generated must be taxed.
Uber and Bolt car owners to pay new vehicle income tax
The GRA has issued a notification to vehicle owners of passenger vehicles regarding the implementation of a new tax policy.
Car owners on platforms like Uber now have to pay Vehicle Income Tax from January 1, 2024.
The GRA has published a statement with guidelines for transport companies and users to follow.
