On Thursday, December 28, 2023, about 15 thugs wearing branded T-shirts belonging to Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament, Mrs Mavis Hawa Kumson, attacked Cape FM morning show host Mr Cobbena. It is said that he attacked. , and beat him mercilessly without provocation.
This was during the central regional examination of NPP parliamentary aspirants held at the Regional Coordination Council in Cape Coast.
The thugs reportedly mistook the lawmaker for another person who also allegedly insulted the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development.
Based on that mistaken identity, a man who appears to be a police officer invites an unsuspecting David into the distance to try to confirm his mistaken identity.
Mr. Kobena denied it and submitted his media house ID card as evidence to support his denial, but in the process someone slapped him from behind and other thugs joined in the assault, brutally beating him. I hit you.
Mr Dwanfor said an initial investigation by the GJA confirmed the incident.
“This is the height of impunity, and we cannot tolerate it any longer. While we condemn the attack on David unreservedly, we demand the following:
“I am hereby notified that if these demands (sanctions) are not met by the end of Friday, January 12, 2024, I will advise myself accordingly,” he said.
Mr Dwanfor said: “However, as we have already served notice, we intend to fight back with every weapon at our industry’s arsenal to repel attacks on journalists in the lead-up to the 2024 elections. We can assure you: You can’t fight the media and win.
“We want to assure the media fraternity that we will continue to protect their interests at all costs. This year, we want to assure the media fraternity that we will continue to protect their interests at all costs. “We will continue our campaign against them. We know they will be used as part of a strategy to silence the media, but we will resist with all our might.”
Mr Dwanfor advised journalists to exercise extreme caution while carrying out their duties and to report any threats against them to the police for necessary action to be taken.
