Eco-Conscious Citizens, a non-governmental organization, has warned of imminent danger to Ghanaians if the menace of illegal mining, known as galamsey, is not stopped.
Aura Serwa, the group’s coordinator, said Ghana may have to import drinking water because of pollution from illegal mining.

He stressed that this phenomenon has become evident because Ghanaians are not angry enough about the issue of illegal mining, and unless that changes things will not get better.
Edwin Kweku Ando Baffour, director of public relations at the Ghana Food Sovereignty Authority, said President Akufo-Addo had failed in the fight against illegal mining, especially since he staked his presidency on fighting canker.
“It was a great honor for the president to recognize how important this issue is to Ghanaians and say something like he is putting his career on the line for us.
“This is a warning to those who are going to lead Ghana, whether it is Mahama, Alan Cash or Nana Bediako who has just stepped out of his place. Hold Ghana’s leaders accountable. We look forward to an example,” he said.
