The senior pastor of the Church of the Lord Brethren in Goaso, Ahafo Region, has appealed to the media to be cautious in their reporting to ensure a peaceful general election.
In his petition, Bishop Covina Bonnet highlighted the importance of responsible journalism, citing examples of other countries facing disruption due to media coverage.
He urged journalists to abide by ethical standards and emphasized the important role the media plays in promoting an atmosphere free of violence during this year’s general elections.
During an interview with adom newsBishop Bonnet stressed that journalists must prioritize fact-based reporting as the nation approaches a critical stage in political decision-making.
He expressed his belief that responsible media practices greatly contribute to a peaceful electoral process.
“We can’t do anything without the media…Many countries that are suffering are because of media coverage. I encourage you to do so. [the media] Be careful how you report issues.
“If chaos breaks out here, we have nowhere to go. This is the only place we have. So be careful.”
Bishop Covina Bonnet advised young people not to be exploited by politicians for violence during this year’s general elections.
“Young people, be careful not to let anyone incite you to do something you don’t need to do. Remember, there is no one out there to lead you into this.
“If someone comes to lead you on and you get punished, you’re going to ruin your life. So to young people, no one should get involved in these things.”
