The Sports Writers Association of Ghana, SWAG, has honored the President of Rugby Africa, the continental body of rugby in Africa, Herbert Mensah for his exemplary leadership and quality contribution to the development of rugby in Africa.
Mensah received a prestigious award at the 48th Nguvu SWAG Awards night at the Accra International Convention Center on Friday, January 12, 2024.
He was given a plaque and a report read for him stated that; “Herbert Mensah’s transformational leadership and relentless commitment to the promotion and development of rugby in Ghana and Africa has been commendable.”
“His visionary approach, strategic initiatives and commitment to promoting grassroots development have propelled the Ghana Rugby Football Union and Rugby Africa to new heights, encouraging growth and inspiring a new generation of rugby fans and athletes.
SWAG congratulates you on your appointment as President of Rugby Africa and presents you with an esteemed award.”
Mensah’s award was received on his behalf by Association Board Member, Northern Rugby Association President, Get into Rugby Manager, Educator, Rafiatu Inusah.
“As President of Rugby Africa, I am truly humbled and honored to receive this prestigious award from the Ghana Sports Writers Association. This recognition reflects not only my personal commitment to the development of rugby in Africa, but also the collective efforts of those remarkable sportsmen and women who are dedicated to instilling positive change and adopting the sport’s global standards,” said Mensah. “Thank you for this recognition, which only fuels my mission to promote the development of the game in Africa. In addition, I continue to emphasize the business potential of rugby in Africa. Together as a united force, we will raise the standards of rugby in Africa and unlock the huge economic opportunities of the sports industry.”
The SWAG Awards is an opportunity and event to celebrate sporting excellence, it is the longest running awards program in Ghana consistently rewarding top performing men and women since 1975.
The organization also recognizes the efforts of individuals involved in the development of sport, including Administrators, Managers, Coaches, Referees, corporate bodies and other stakeholders in sport.
