Corporal Richmond Nyarko Obeng of the Ghana Police Service has won the admiration of many Ghanaians when he was adjudged valedictorian at the second conference of the University of Ghana (UG) 2024 Congregation held last weekend.
Private First Class Nyarko Obeng earned a grade point average of 3.82 out of 4.0 and graduated with a First Class Honors degree in Management (Major in Accounting).
After completing his secondary education, he was recruited by the Ghana Police Service in 2016 and is currently attached to the Financial Forensic Investigation Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Nyarko Obeng, who was successfully passed out in July 2017, was reportedly the second best recruit overall in the second batch of recruits at Tesano National Police Training Academy.
The 2024 UG valedictorian was also named the overall best detective after completing a program at Tesano Detective School in 2018, according to journalist Caleb Nii Boe.
“Richmond received his basic education at Presby Basic School in Akyem Ankasee. He continued his secondary school education at Christ Mediation International School in Atitim Edwenese.
“He then proceeded to Adanwomase High School to pursue general science.During his high school education, he held various positions including principal of the dining hall and secretary of the National Union of Presbyterian Students (Ghana, popularly known as NUPS-G). He has held leadership roles,” the journalist wrote on Facebook.

Nyarko Obeng of Richmond will graduate summa cum laude in management (accounting major) with a final grade point average of 3.82.
Richmond received his basic education at Presby Basic School in Akyem Ankase. He continued his secondary school education at Christ Mediation International School in Atitimu Edwenese. He then went to Adanwomase High School and majored in general science.
During his high school education, he held various leadership roles including cafeteria director and secretary of the National Union of Presbyterian Students of Ghana (commonly known as NUPS-G).
After completing his high school education, he was recruited by the Ghana Police Force in 2016 and passed the Tesano National Police Training Academy in July 2017 with the second highest overall score among the second batch of recruits. Once again, he was named the overall best student/detective for Course 3 at Tesano Detective Training School in his 2018 year. He is currently a member of the Financial Forensics Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department.
Richmond joined the University of Ghana in 2019 to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Management from the Faculty of Further and Distance Education. His dream is to become a certified public accountant and earn a master’s degree in business administration in finance.
Richmond believes that a career as a police officer will allow him to become a top manager in the business world and make a difference in the business environment.
