Mr Wontumi said Mr Kennedy Agyapong called for unity within the party following Mr Ralph’s defeat in the recent Bantama parliamentary primaries to incumbent MP Francis Asenso Boakye, brother of the Assin Central MP. Ta.
In an interview with Wontumi TV on January 28, 2024, Chairman Wontumi explained that Mr Ralph was willing to put his defeat behind him in order to support the party’s presidential candidate.
“Let me just say this: Well done Ralph Agyapong and the way he came to raise his hand and congratulate Asenso will lead to unity in the Ashanti Region. I will concentrate on ensuring the unity of the party.
“Ralph, Agyapong’s younger brother, called me and he told me that the NPP will cross eight countries. I’m going to come to exercise. That’s what he told me. So I said, ‘I’m happy as Ashanti Regional Chairman,'” Wontumi said.
Mr. Asenso remained elected with 78.22% of the total votes cast, making him the only NPP member to maintain his candidacy in the constituency.
