Ghana has signed two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the United Kingdom (UK) Automobile Manufacturers and Traders Forum and the Department of Trade’s Automotive Development Centre.
The agreement is to seek partnerships to transfer skills, knowledge and technology. and a science, technology and innovation memorandum of understanding to promote economic prosperity through science and technology,
This was at the ninth meeting of the UK-Ghana Business Council (UKGBC) in Accra, which was co-chaired by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on Wednesday, January 31.
The UK Secretary of State for Development and Africa, Rt Hon. Andrew Mitchell, led a visiting delegation to the meeting.
Among other things, Council members discussed the global climate finance architecture and welcomed Ghana’s commitment to unlocking climate finance to support an impact pipeline of climate activities.
This will touch on areas such as carbon finance mixes, EVs, shipping and the hydrogen economy, and welcomed the UK’s announcement of the Green Cities and Infrastructure Technical Assistance Program for Ghana.
The program will focus on providing climate finance, low-carbon, climate-resilient infrastructure and supporting cities to become innovation hubs while fostering sustainable economic growth.
Since its inception in 2018, UKGBC has made significant progress, resulting in funding agreements for key Ghanaian projects such as Kumasi International Airport Phase II, Tamale International Airport Expansion, Kejetia Phase III and the completion of Bekwai Hospital .
