MEST of Africa and UNICEF have collaborated to launch its 4th editor UNICEF Startup Lab.
The workshop is a six-month accelerator that empowers entrepreneurs committed to social impact and technology-based solutions. The program is led by UNICEF Ghana, supported by KOICA and implemented by MEST Africa.

Launched in 2019, the Lab has supported more than 50 startups to build a product, develop and strengthen business operations and strategy, communicate and develop relationships with users, partners and funders, and provide funding prototypes.
The Lab has been instrumental in the successful discovery and development of 4 Digital Public Goods in Ghana.
The UNICEF StartUp Lab provides a unique product by integrating business incubation and broad technical expertise and systems knowledge in the social sector, enhanced by the reach of UNICEF and KOICA partnerships.
How does it work
Candidates will go through a 6 month course comprising of different modules including; market and user research, business modeling, and marketing and communication.
Selected startups have the opportunity to receive up to GHS 32,000 of prototyping funding and networking and investment opportunities as well as an opportunity to apply for the Equity-free UNICEF Business Fund $100,000.
Eligibility
- Your startup has been running for 1+ year
- Your startup is a registered business in Ghana (no NGOs, foundations or individuals)
- Your startup has technology as its core business
- Your startup has a business model with social impact that meets at least one of the Sustainable Development Goals
- Open source solutions or startups willing to open source their solutions are strongly encouraged to apply
- Start-ups with female founders/co-founders are encouraged to apply
- The program is designed to include startups from all regions of Ghana
The applications are now open and will close by the end of February 2024.
