- Tyson Fury shared his amazing body transformation on social media
- Fury’s S&C trainer said he was in the best shape of his life before the cut
- Gypsy King was “stronger and leaner” than ever before
Tyson Fury has shared his amazing body transformation on social media following the postponement of his undisputed title fight with Oleksandr Usyk.
The much-anticipated fight was scheduled to take place in Riyadh on February 17, but was postponed after Fury suffered an injury during training camp.
Gypsy King suffered a severe cut above his right eye on Friday during sparring, which his promotion team has described as a “crazy cut”.
Fury and his team took to social media after the postponement was announced saying they were devastated given the work they had done behind the scenes.
Gypsy King’s S&C trainer Kristian Blacklock said Fury was in the best shape of his life ahead of the Usyk fight – claiming he was “stronger and more learned” than ever.
Meanwhile, Fury – who shared a photo of his slimmed-down physique on Instagram – said Usyk would be in “trouble” had the fight gone as planned.
Fury shared his body transformation online after the postponement was announced, posting a photo of himself standing in front of a mirror during his camp in Saudi Arabia.
The Gypsy King looked much thinner than when he fought former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in October 2023.
Fury – who told Mail Sport he would always be fat during an interview ahead of the Ngannou fight – could be seen sporting abs as he stretched in the mirror selfie.
Fury wrote the following caption alongside the photo posted on Friday: “I can’t avoid getting injured in sparring but what I can say is that Usyk was in trouble.
He then added: “I’m in fantastic shape. I will reschedule as much as I can. 2024 a huge year for the GK team.’
Fury’s S&C trainer Blacklock responded: “As a team we’ve had Tyson Fury in the best shape of his life as we’ve quietly worked away, stronger, leaner, but we’ll be ready when the fight resumes.”
The transformation shocked fans as Fury had been uncharacteristically quiet during camp, hiding his weight from his Ukrainian rival.
Fury’s love handles have become a trademark of the boxing world, an emblem of his unique charisma. However, many criticized the Gypsy King for being out of shape for his fight with Ngannou.
Fury is known for being elusive in the ring and his powerful punches deliver spectacular knockouts. But, he couldn’t do it against the former UFC heavyweight champion.
Speaking about his weight ahead of this fight, Fury told Mail Sport: “It’s good to have a good body. I would love to have a good body. But, I have no hope of having a good body.
“I’ve been working out for over 20 years and I still don’t have a good body. I have been in a boot camp, living like a monk, for the past 12 weeks and I still don’t have a good body.
“I didn’t have a good body when I was a teenager, so I don’t mind being 40 years old. But the one thing I learned is that this is not a bodybuilding competition.
“Although I don’t look like a person who can do long distances or run 20 miles, I am a person who can do this.
“I think of myself as an old-fashioned guy who can go out there and fight, it doesn’t matter what I look like. It’s about getting the win.
“If I had a 10-pack and looked like Adonis – absolutely incredible and I wasn’t winning, it’s pointless. So I don’t really care about being fat.
“I really accept being fat because my love handles separate me from the rest of the world, never in history. There has never been anyone like me and there never will be.
“That’s what makes me so tough and that’s what makes me, me. If you said to me, “Right Tyson, we’re going to give you a chance to get the fat off of you and give you a full six pack,” I wouldn’t take it because it’s not me.
“I’m fat now, I was fat as a baby and I’ll be fat on my deathbed. We’re all fat. Huey is fat, Shane is fat, my dad even my mom. I hope he doesn’t see this. But, we are a big family.
“He trains every day, my brother Huey, like hell. He will run, he will train, he will box. I’m the same. Two or three times a day, in or out of camp, but I was always fat. Even when I got down to 17stone, like that, I still had love handles. It’s my trademark for sure.’
However, fans worried that Fury would struggle against Usyk if he didn’t cut weight. The Ukrainian’s promoter Alex Krassyuk even said that Gypsy King’s weight will determine the quality of their fight.
Fury seems to have taken the comments to heart as he has lost a significant amount of weight ahead of the undisputed title fight, which was scheduled to take place on February 17.
Fury is adamant he will arrive on the new date, May 18, in the same format.
