The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has called on various news organizations in the country to blacklist Mr. Yendi MP Farouk Aliu Mahama for assaulting Mr. Mohamed Aminu M. Arabira, a northern region reporter for City News. instructed.
Farouk Mahama and his team caused mayhem in Arabila while covering the chaos that disrupted the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries in Yendi constituency on January 27, 2024.
The Northern Regional Police Command is currently investigating the matter.
GJA, Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA), Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) and Media Foundation of West Africa (MFWA) said in a press conference on February 6 that “all media companies should be blacklisted and Mr. Farooq “We have to make an offer,” he said. Allu Mahama will not be given any media coverage or interviews in his capacity as Yendi MP or any other state office until further notice. We know that apart from him being insensitive to journalistic work (as shown during the Congressional primaries), he has vigilantes around him who could harm you. I want you to know. So stay away from him and his thugs. ”
The group implored journalists to comply with the directive.
“Colleagues, we hope that all media organizations will cooperate with our call and ensure compliance with the instructions. This is in our common interest.”
GJA called on the Ghana Police Service to accelerate the investigation into this incident, arraign the perpetrators in court and face the rigors of the law.
The GJA also gave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) a 10-day ultimatum to be heard and threatened to admonish itself if it failed.
“We have given the NPP, the Regional Police, the National Police and the Ghana Police Force a 10-day ultimatum to hear their views. They should arrest the culprits. If they fail, we will That’s the advice I’m going to give myself.”
