Nana Kwame Bediako, also known as Freedom Jacob Caesar, made this statement when he called on the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) at the International Press Centre-Accra on Tuesday (February 6, 2024).
He stressed that it was Osagyefo Dr.’s wish. Kwame Nkrumah, the first President of Ghana, to see journalism in Ghana flourish with a steady prosperity of journalists, adding that the New Force under his leadership is here to continue the wishes of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The New Power leader also noted that although he is not a politician, his policies are what Ghana needs right now to turn its economic fortunes around.
“I’m not a politician and I don’t know anything about politics, but I’m a leader, a leader with a vision, that’s what I have,” emphasized Freedom Jacob Caesar.
He said politicians often work for the next election, but a leader’s priority like his is to build a country.
He later revealed that he plans to build a tech hub in Ghana, similar to Silicon Valley in the United States (US).
According to him, Silicon Valley has contributed immensely to America’s economy, adding that Ghana will reap the same benefit should its Technology Hub become operational.
“We want to create sustainable platform for technology hub in the country. When we have a technology center, we can produce iPhones in the country,” said Mr Bediako.
He explained that Ghana has the largest youth population dependent on technology, so the tech hub will serve a huge purpose, citing how Jeff Bezos’ Amazon has helped and created massive jobs in the US and beyond.
Industrial and Regional Revolution
He also shared that this policy will create jobs and enhance human development in the country.
“The country may be progressing, they say we have 75 billion GDP, but everyone in the country or 90% of us are poor. We are facing an economic crisis,” he said.
“…If we don’t create jobs for the average person and move it from 90% unemployed to at least 50% our economy will never be balanced.”
He further explained that it is much easier to create jobs in the suburbs than to allow people to overcrowd the capital.
Infrastructure Development
The New Power leader could not understand why Ghana’s transport system is so dependent on roads, adding that the expansion of railways will be his priority.
“You can’t put anything in any water and you can’t move containers through the railways,” he said.
He said the road transport system creates pollution and does not make us think like the modern world Ghana is supposed to be.
“The modern world is always finding sustainable ways to make its people have a better life. For us we are here to create a better life for our people,” said Freedom Jacob Caesar
Regarding Security, Mr. Bediakos expressed his concern about the destruction of water in the country, which he said is a threat to our security.
He said he will use technology to fight criminals, especially those who destroy our water bodies.
On his part, the GJA President, Mr. Albert Kwabena, flanked by his staff, expressed his appreciation to Mr. Bediako for being the first political leader to invite the Association.
He also thanked Mr Bediakos for his pledge to support the media and appealed to him to donate to the GJA Journalists Support Fund (JSF), which has been set up to support Retired Journalists and Journalists who have been attacked as part of the his duties.
The GJA President later lauded the policies of the New Power and assured the leader of the support of the media in terms of fair coverage.
