Kobbie Mainoo has two goals this season for Manchester United
Manchester United have opted to accelerate negotiations with Kobbie Mainoo over a new permanent deal and a significant pay rise, according to rumours.
The 18-year-old had excellent reviews during the summer, but was sidelined by an injury at the start of the season, and has since overcome it.
In the seven Premier League games Mainoo has started for United, he has shown maturity and composure on the ball. Against Wolves, he capped several excellent displays in midfield with a spectacular run and finish to seal a late victory.
His most recent contract was signed in February 2023, less than a year ago, and it initially appeared United management were in no rush to open new negotiations.
The deal has the option of a one-year extension and expires in June 2027, so United have plenty of scope. Negotiations for a renewal were not expected to begin until the summer.
Fabrizio Romano, however, claims that United’s attitude has suddenly evolved and that they want to sign a player who could serve as the foundation of their team for the next ten years.

New contracts have already been drawn up and negotiations with Mainoo’s team are reportedly going well.
While Mainoo is keen to commit to Old Trafford, United are confident the young midfielder will play an important role in their plans in the coming years.
The Red Devils have made it clear that he will be an integral part of their plan and in recognition of his growing importance to the team, he will receive a hefty pay rise.
Mainoo is even being considered for a call-up to the national team for this summer’s Euros, despite never having played for England’s under-21 side. If contract negotiations had been postponed until after the season, that could have caused a roadblock.
