Former National Sports Authority (NSA) chairman, Kwadwo Baah Agyemang has claimed that some Black Stars players want Andre Ayew to be sacked from the team.
He claimed that some of the players he recruited told him that Ayew’s leadership was negatively affecting the team’s dynamic.
According to him, some players have confided in their desire to see Ayew move away from the team. They believe his removal could lead to improvements in team performance and cohesion.
“Some of the veteran players, in particular, are a negative influence and need to be kicked out. Their constant presence hinders the cohesion and unity of the group. Dede Ayew should be relieved of his duties at Black Stars. Introducing fresh faces could lead to a significant improvement in team performance,” he told Kessben FM.
“He no longer has an improvement in the team and his presence brings a lot of issues. Most players feel it doesn’t help their cohesion and so want it gone. I talk to a lot of players.”
On the appointment of the Black Stars coach, he stressed the need for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint a coach who is well versed in the dynamics of Ghanaian and African football.
According to him, the coach should understand the behavior of the players and the dynamics within the team.
“We need to appoint a coach who understands Ghanaian football and our team dynamics. They should know the behavior of the players. In addition, some players may have to retire due to allegations against them,” Mr. Agyemang explained.
The GFA is currently in the process of selecting the next coach for the Black Stars following the sacking of Chris Hughton following the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The Black Stars’ performance in the 2023 AFCON tournament saw the team exit from the group stage. The team failed to secure a win and only managed two draws against Egypt and Mozambique respectively after an opening defeat to Cape Verde.
This marks the second consecutive AFCON tournament in which the Black Stars have suffered an early exit.
