The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has taken over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 16-year-old student of Aburi Girls High School in Akuapem South Municipality in the Eastern Region.
Student Stacey Okyere died on Monday, February 5, 2024, after reportedly being refused medical treatment by the school nurse.
The nurse reportedly accused the student of faking illness, even though the student had been complaining of severe abdominal pain.
The circumstances surrounding her death have sparked criticism directed at the school’s administration, with the family accusing school administrators of negligence.
While both the school’s management and the Ghana Education Authority remain silent on the incident, Eastern Regional Minister Seth Kwame Achiampong has called for calm.
He assured the public that the CID would conduct a thorough investigation to clarify the situation.
After speaking with school authorities on February 9, the Regional Minister told journalists: “I have received an explanation from the school management.
“Due to the nature of the student’s death, it is necessary for law enforcement agencies, particularly the CID of the Ghana Police Service, to step in and investigate this matter on our behalf.The Ghana Education Authority has also established its own mechanism to investigate this matter. have.
“It is too early to draw conclusions at this time. We extend our condolences to the management and students and pray for the families to rest in peace.
