Irene Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, wife of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, has spoken about how she deals with news about her husband.
She admitted that she sometimes hurts when her husband is insulted, but said she has developed a tough skin that can withstand everything.
In an interview on Nyira FM on February 12, she said, “It’s not easy to wake up in the morning and see my husband’s name on the news and people saying all sorts of things. He is an important person to me, and he is an important person to me.” She said, “I am a human being. Sometimes I get hurt when Ghanaians insult my husband, but I have a tough skin to withstand it, even though I remain calm on the surface.”
When asked how she manages her marriage to a politician, she said respect and patience are the keys to a successful relationship.
She emphasized the importance of understanding that marrying a public figure means sharing that public figure with the public.
Reflecting on her parents’ marriage, she said, “My married life has been guided by my parents’ marriage.I live out the respect that my mother gave to my father.Marriage is a journey. , it’s not the same pattern.” “You need a strong heart and an open mind to deal with everything. In some cases, you don’t need to react. Just be patient and your husband will reflect.”
Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame Constituency, has been a key figure in the parliamentary leadership for many years, serving as Minority Leader, Majority Leader and Minister of State in the Parliamentary Ministry.
He also served as Majority Leader and Deputy Leader.
However, due to his age and the number of terms he has already served, he has decided not to seek re-election at the 2024 polls.
“Given my age, I made it very clear that I wanted to end it here and say thank you. People at the local and national level have been putting pressure on me to compete up until this moment. , I spoke and made my position clear.”
The resigning lawmaker is from Breman Afrancho in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region, and is married with five children.
