The National Democratic Congress (NDC) believes that if Ghanaians vote for New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections, they will once again hand over power to President Akufo-Addo. .
NDC General Secretary Fifi Kweti explained at a press conference that Dr. Bawumia was part of the Akufo-Addo government and had contributed to many of its decisions.
Kweti therefore pointed out that asking Ghanaians to endure another few months while promising to eliminate intrusive taxes and take decisions that go against government policy is mere flattery.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, think seriously about this. This is why we maintain that a vote for Bawumia is actually only a third term for Akufo-Addo. It comes from the same men who used flattery to deceive you with the promise of moving you from taxation to production.”
Furthermore, Kweti said, “The Vice President’s previous promises to reduce the tax burden on Ghanaians, not tax mobile money wallets, and reduce import duties on spare parts are just some of the promises that have turned into lies. It’s just a department.” ”
The NDC General Secretary expressed concern about Dr Bawumia’s credibility, saying he was untrustworthy and therefore unfit to lead the country.
“This same man suddenly thought Ghanaians had a poor memory and once again promised to abolish taxes to deceive Ghanaian voters. Should we remind him that Ghanaians still remember Ghana’s key role in shaping the unpleasant e-taxation policy, as he admitted in
“We still remember his key role in the recent IMF negotiations. His actions resulted in the introduction of an emissions tax that many consider wasteful and the introduction of previously exempt items. “We decided to impose value-added tax on this.”
Mr Kweti said Dr Bawumia should apologize to Ghanaians and lead a campaign to abolish the new taxes imposed now rather than in 2025.
“Ghanaians cannot survive for 10 days, let alone 10 months, on this suffocating tax. The cruel and harsh taxes imposed on suffering Ghanaians by nuclear power plants. The time to abolish it is now!”
On Wednesday, February 7, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia addressed Ghanaians at the Accra Professional University in a lecture titled “Ghana’s Next Chapter: Selfless Leadership and Bold Solutions for the Future.” did.
In his speech, he outlined his goals for the country as the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and urged Ghanaians to vote for him in the upcoming general elections.
Among the many policies promised are policies that will help abolish the E-Levy as part of efforts to make Ghana a cashless society, as well as the proposed abolition of value-added tax, emissions tax and gambling tax on electricity. This included the introduction of.
“As vice president, I am like the driver’s buddy. But if God, by the grace of God, makes me president, I will sit in the driver’s seat with constitutional authority and carry out my duties. You get to pursue your vision and your priorities.”
“Obviously, the initial conditions that we inherited in 2017 are not the same as in 2025, so my priorities are different. We have done a lot of good things and I want to build on that. ” he said.
However, Kweti stressed that the vice president has “significant character flaws”.
“How can we trust a Vice President who has shown no remorse or remorse for deliberately lying and deceiving the people of Ghana? A man who believes that a leader can continue to deceive all of his people at any time. .”
