Controversial media personality and musician, Black Rasta, has slammed Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament and Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mavis Hawa Kumson, for comparing Ghana and Canada.
He said Hawa Kumson was wrong to compare the country’s high rents with those in other countries like Canada. This is because Canada’s economic situation is healthier than Ghana’s.
He accused Hawa Kumson of being “indifferent and insensitive” to the plight faced by Ghanaians.
Speaking on 3FM’s Urban Blend program monitored by Ghanaweb, Mr. Black Rasta justified why Mr. Hawa Kumson’s claim that rents in Ghana are better than other foreign countries is wrong.
“Would you compare a poverty-stricken country like Ghana to Canada? Go to America and find out how much KFC costs, come to Ghana and find out how much the same price costs in all jurisdictions.
“They’re looking at people’s incomes. They need to understand what per capita income means. What amenities do they have in the area? When you go to Canada, the electricity comes on every second. “The ambulance is there. Before you call the police, they will knock on your door. This is the perfect service in this area,” he said.
“So these are the people you voted for as MPs. So cavalier and at the same time so insensitive. I’m sad. This is what you decided to aspire to as a parliamentary representative and as a minister. “It’s a low-brain level,” he added.
Hawa Kumson talks about rent in Ghana
In a recent interview with Nana Yaa Brefo and JB on Onua FM’s morning show “Yɛn Nsɛmpa”, the Awutu Senya East MP urged Ghanaians to compare rents in Ghana and Canada. .
She highlighted her recent visit to Canada, where just renting a room can cost upwards of C$2,000 per month, making it considerably more expensive than in Ghana.
“People are complaining that the rent is high in Ghana. They should go to Canada. They pay more than CAD 2,000 a month. This is for one room, not even a chamber or a hall.”
“Things are tough right now and the cost of living is high everywhere. If you compare Ghana with other countries, we are in a much better situation,” she said on Twitter.
She maintained that despite global economic challenges, Ghana has remained relatively affordable and this is due to the government’s efforts.
Hawa Kumson’s comments have come under heavy criticism, with some showering insults on her for being indifferent to issues plaguing Ghanaians.
