X (officially known as Twitter) recently introduced audio and video calling features, allowing users to connect more directly with their followers and friends.
The feature update is now available to all users, which will allow non-X paying users to make or receive calls.
Here’s how to use it:
1. Eligibility
Before you start making calls, make sure you meet the following criteria:
- The person you want to call sent you one Direct Message (DM) at least once before.
2. Access the call function
To access the call function, follow these steps:
- Open yours Instant messages by tapping the folder icon.
- Select an existing DM chat or start a new one.
- Tap on the folder icon.
3. Make an audio or video call
Once you enter the DM chat, you can choose between an audio call or a video call:
- Voice call: Tap the phone icon to start an audio call.
- Video call: Tap the video camera icon to start a video call.
4. Notifications
When you call someone:
- The recipient will receive a notification that you are calling them.
- If they miss the call, they will get a notification that they missed it.
Enhanced call privacy
Twitter now offers improved call privacy settings:
- With this setting enabled, your IP address will be hidden from the people you call and receive calls from.
- If both parties have this setting disabled (which is the default), the call is routed peer-to-peer, potentially revealing each other’s IP addresses.
- If either party enables this setting, calls are relayed through Twitter’s infrastructure, masking IP addresses.
