The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has put in place strict measures to ensure a safe environment for the upcoming general elections.
This includes establishing an Election Security Office to oversee, plan and implement election-related matters.
Cooperation with other security agencies will ensure that the elections are held without security violations.
Commissioner of Police (COP) Idi Lanza Seidou, Director of ICT at Police Headquarters, disclosed this last Wednesday during the passing of 29 graduates and 159 general freshmen at the Regional Police Training School in Ho.
Mr. Seydoux reminded the new police officers of the potential for fainting in an election year and warned them to fairly enforce the laws governing elections with the utmost respect for the rights of citizens.
“You must treat them with respect, demonstrate a high level of professionalism, and live a law-abiding life that others should emulate.
“Always remember that policing is about service, sacrifice and selflessness,” he told the new officers.
changing trends
He said the world is witnessing a phase of security change characterized by complex cyber-related crimes and changes in criminal techniques.
He noted that, therefore, great demands are placed on GPS personnel to provide more diverse, complex, skilled and specialized services to address current crime trends. .
Mr Seidu said that to position the service as answering the security needs of the public, it has developed new training modules that blend theory with on-the-ground practice and simulation exercises.
“Currently, the focus is on outdoor training activities such as horse riding, driving, swimming, crowd management, and incident and disaster management,” he added.
He said around 7,000 new police officers had benefited from the new training module.

He called on the new officers to demonstrate high standards in maintaining law, order and security in the country.
