President Akufo-Addo assigned additional responsibilities to several ministers tasked with filling vacancies in various ministries without substantive ministers.
The decision follows the president’s recent reshuffle on Wednesday, February 14, which included the dismissal and reappointment of ministers within the government.
Among his notable duties, Minister of Railways John Peter Amewu will oversee the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources until the vetting process of Lydia Salem Alhassan is completed.
Similarly, the Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, will be in charge of the Greater Accra Region until the appointment of Nii Quartey Titus Glover as Greater Accra Regional Minister.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, who is currently the Minister of Labor and Housing, will continue to be in charge of the Ministry of Information until former Deputy Minister Fatimatu Abubakar is vetted and approved by Parliament.
Additionally, the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, will be in charge of the Ministry of Health until Dr. Bernard Okoye Boye officially takes over.
Once again, Mr. Osei-Bonsu Amoah will oversee the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, pending approval from Substantive Minister Martin Adjei-Mensah-Korsa. Volta Regional Minister Archibald Letsa will be in charge of the Oti region on an interim basis.
Fisheries Minister Hawa Kumson will be in charge of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection until Dalcor Newman takes over the role. Minister of Lands and Natural Resources Samuel Abu Jinapor will temporarily oversee the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation until Ophelia Quansah Hayford takes over.
This decision is in line with the government’s goal to improve administrative efficiency and performance across ministries.
