Regional chairmen of the Ghana Transport Operators Association and the Ghana Concerned Drivers Association have announced their intention to consider increasing fares in response to the recent rise in fuel prices across the country.
As a driver association, we expressed disappointment that leadership did not address concerns and implement fare adjustments to offset increased operating costs.
Continuously rising fuel prices are having a major impact on our lives, leading to financial burdens and difficulties in maintaining business.
We would like to express our regret that despite rising fuel costs, our leadership has not taken proactive steps to increase freight rates in line with market conditions.
As a result, we as regional executives have come to believe that fare adjustments are a necessary measure to maintain business.
Fares adjustment is essential to ensure the financial viability of the transport sector and maintain the quality of services provided to the public. The government’s failure to address this critical issue has left us with no choice but to consider increasing fares as a means of dealing with rising operational costs.
We call on governments and relevant authorities to engage in constructive dialogue with leaders to address the challenges facing our industry and implement fare adjustments that reflect current economic realities. I am.
If these concerns are not addressed by March 6, 2024, we will be forced to increase fares.
