- According to her, Hon. Sam George is a hypocrite after a 9-year-old video of him talking about the LGBTQ+ community resurfaces
- Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency was at the forefront of securing the passage of Ghana’s anti-gay law
Socialist Afia Schwarzenegger has slammed Ningo-Prampram Constituency MP Samuel Nartey George for his strong support for the anti-LGBT+ bill.
He described his support for the bill’s passage and approval by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as hypocritical, citing his previous advocacy of LGBTQ+ rights in an interview nine years ago.
Afia Schwarzenegger has urged Sam George to refocus on pressing national issues such as corruption rather than prioritizing the anti-gay bill, which she says will have no real impact on the country’s fortunes.

In a resurgent interview nine years ago with Joynews, Sam George said: “When we have related issues of water, energy, possible gas prices going up…those are the things that border the nation. Regardless of my personal views on homosexuals, the constitution of this country remains supreme.”
What Afia Schwarzenegger said
She emphasized that Sam George’s change of attitude contradicts his earlier remarks, where he stressed the importance of respecting constitutional rights, regardless of personal views on homosexuality.
“Hypocrisy. The very people you disenfranchised nine years ago are now the ones openly expressing their LGBTQ+ identities. Let them be; their lifestyle choices don’t cost us financially… They’re the politicians with the untruth their rhetoric that are really tormenting us. Your exorbitant four-year pensions, presidential perks and rampant corruption are our real concerns… Frankly, Ghana’s parliament is a mockery,” he said.
