The Gadangme Council has refuted President Akufo-Addo’s claim that Mr. Tette Kuarshi is from Mampong in the Eastern Region.
According to the council, historical records confirm that Tette Quashie was born in Osu, Greater Accra region.
In a statement issued and signed by President Nii Aikoi Otoo, the Council highlighted the discrepancy between the President’s statement and historical facts, calling it confusing.
They provided evidence of historical records that clearly show that Mr. Quarshie was born and raised in Osu.
βTette Quarshieβs roots in Osu are well documented, with many sources confirming his ties to the community, although some may also link it to Tessi “But in both scenarios, he remains a pure gallium extract.”
The council further argued that the president’s claims lacked substantive evidence and were inconsistent with established historical accounts.
βIt is vitally important that we correct this misinformation and set the record straight regarding the origins of Tetteh Quarshie. By spreading this inaccurate information, we are distorting our understanding of history and have made a tremendous contribution to society. “There is a risk of damaging the legacy of an individual who has lived a long life. Reliance on factual evidence and historical documents is essential to ensure the accuracy of our stories.”
Speaking at the 67th Independence Day celebrations in Koforidua on March 6, President Akufo-Addo described Tetteh Quarshie as the visionary behind the introduction of cocoa to Ghana and praised him. associated the origin with Mampong Akuapem.
βIndeed, Tetteh Kuarshi, an indigenous Mampong Akuapem here in the eastern region, brought back cacao fruit from Fernando Pau (now Bioko) in Equatorial Guinea in the late 19th century, and this is how he and others behaved. This led to the establishment of our country’s first commercial cocoa farm here in the eastern region.”
However, this statement of the President caused disagreement from the Gadangme Council.
