National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer John Mahama has said that “vehicles” in Ghana cannot be handed over to spouses whose drivers are unable to drive properly.
This is his metaphorical response to the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a speech on February 7, the vice president called on Ghanaians to vote for him as the next president, empowering him to implement policies that will grow the country.
“As Vice President, I am like the driver’s buddy. But if God, by the grace of God, makes me President, I will sit in the driver’s seat with constitutional authority and carry out my duties. We will pursue our vision and priorities,” Dr. Bawumia said.
However, according to John Mahama, if the driver of the car does not understand basic road signs and constantly violates traffic rules, the spouse who is expected to learn driving from the driver says that they will learn such habits.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Bushy in the Upper West region on March 8, he stressed that spouses will drive like bosses.
“And on December 7th, drivers will leave if they haven’t driven properly in the last seven years. We’re not going to give the car to a fellow driver if he can’t even drive well. , much less the fellow drivers?” he asked.
The former President further added: “We all know what we have been through in the last seven and a half years and we have an opportunity to save the country from the incompetent and ignorant regime of Nana Akufo-Addo and his fellow drivers. ” he emphasized. .
John Mahama advised that his experience as a former driver should be prioritized over the experience of a friend who is a poorly trained driver.
“Then I’ll leave you with one final question: If you have a car and the driver is a bad driver, and you drive the car, are you going to drive the car with the original, experienced driver, or with a careless driver? Do you want to give your car to a friend who is a driver? I will give it to you.’ A former experienced driver,” he replied.
A two-day tour of the Upper West region was attended by members of the public who had the opportunity to share their concerns with the NDC flag bearer.
Mr Mahama reiterated his determination to keep his promises, especially regarding the demand for increased pay for public sector employees.
