The MC at the event was Farai Duli, well-known speaker and youth employment expert, bringing her unique charm and insight to the proceedings. The aim of the event was to recognize and celebrate women in technology and further unpack the essential change that needs to take place to ensure it becomes a more inclusive industry.

An experienced speaker, Hwalani Mabasoishosted a fireside chat with the participation Kosyek Karan, a fintech leader and advocate for the inclusion and development of women in the crypto industry. The discussion, which focused on how women are shaping the future of modern finance, also included insights from Yaliwe Soko, its President Blockchain Association of United Africa.
Soko contributed to the conversation by revealing insights into gender inequality and how to bridge this gap. Yande Nomvete, Operations Manager for Binance, and another panelist, delved into the steps we can take to foster a culture where more women are actively participating in the world of crypto.
Subject “Embracing the journey of empowerment and transformation in Africa,” the panelists unpacked the potential of crypto to promote financial inclusion and improve access to financial services for underprivileged and minority communities. There are many possibilities for promoting connectivity in municipalities, where crypto can bridge the gap between the unbanked economy.
“The tech industry can be perceived as intimidating for women, especially with its history as an exclusive and male-dominated industry“, says Yande NomveteOperations Manager for Binance in Africa.
“However, women make invaluable contributions to technological innovation, especially in the Web3 realm, and we are committed to bringing positive change to cryptocurrency culture so that we can all benefit from this innovative potential. This event is designed to reflect our renewed focus on promoting such inclusion and diversity, not only within the company, but across the industry.“
By The Numbers
According to a report from ICT Research Africa Access to digital technologies is lower for women than for men, both on the individual and business fronts. For now, the statistics have borne this out 63% of women use the Internet compared to 69% of mena rate that is lower than 30% in developing countries.
However, despite ongoing efforts to close the digital gender gap, it has grown by 20 million from 2019. The reasons behind these statistics remain the same – lack of access and cultural limitations.
Because this matters
Binance is determined to play a role in addressing these challenges and reducing the time it will take to close the gender gap that will it will take another 286 years to close at the current rate of progress.
