Vodafone Ghana has officially moved to Telecel Ghana.
The rebrand was officially unveiled at a public event at the Labadi Beach Hotel.
Driving The News
Telecel Ghana now has full control of various operations previously managed by Vodafone, including fixed telephone lines, internet services, voice and data services, as well as cash transfer and other business services.
This transition follows the acquisition of a 70% majority stake in Vodafone Ghana from Telecel Group.
Telecel Ghana’s rebranding efforts include the introduction of Telecel Play applicationwith the aim of providing a range of digital innovations and mobile financial services to customers.

During the official rebranding ceremony, the CEO of Telecel Ghana, Patricia Oboe-Nayehighlighted the commitment to innovation and digital inclusion in the recently unveiled Telecel network.
“Thus, in February 2023, Vodafone Ghana ended its operations in Ghana. Thus, we signed an agreement with the Telecel Group to take over 70% of Vodafone Group’s shares in Ghana Telecom. A year of transition has passed. And so, as of yesterday, we ended the relationship with the Vodafone brand and unveiled the Telecel brand. We started with our employees in the morning at the convention center, so they’ll be the first to see it“, Patricia Oboe-Naye he said.
“We have communicated our brand promise that they will see an experience that will be very different across our network, the way we serve our customers and, most importantly, mobile financial services.
“There will be many digital innovations that will appear. And so, we announced our app called Telecel Play which everyone should download. And with time, you start to see the changes that are going to happen, especially in financial services. So we are available in all regions and will be moving to regions to show everyone what the new Telecel brand has to offer.”
The bigger picture
Telecel Ghana faces an uphill battle with its closet competitor MTN.
MTN currently dominates both the mobile and voice space in Ghana 73% and 66% market share respectively. This is according to 2022 data from National Communications Authority (NCA).
