Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known in the entertainment industry as ‘A Plus’, has surrendered in a defamation suit brought against Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Hassan Zain.
The prominent businessman sued the controversial musician-turned-politician two years ago for defamatory comments that tarnished his reputation after the allegations were widely reported by the media. .
According to court documents, A Plus decided to resolve the matter and thereby reached an agreement with the businessman.
He decided, among other things, to retract and apologize for the defamatory comments that were brought to court.
Zain sued A Plus for defamation in 2022, seeking relief including a declaration that the defendant had defamed him.
The writ awards general damages of GHF10 million for defamation and an order to A Plus to withdraw the above defamatory comments and photos of Mr. Zain through the same medium used to defame the businessman. was looking for.
Zain also sought an order for A Plus to apologize within seven days using the same medium used for the defamation act.

While the case was progressing steadily in the Accra High Court, A Plus, through its lawyers, decided to enter into an agreement with the plaintiffs to bring the case to an amicable end.
The parties reached an agreement on January 22, 2024, and the court, presided over by Justice Kwasi Agyenim Boateng, adopted the terms of the settlement between the parties as a court consent decree on January 29, 2024.
Under the terms of the agreement, A Plus agreed to withdraw Zain’s comments and photos published in the same outlet.
He also agreed to apologize to the businessman through the same medium in which his comments were posted.
Again, A Plus agreed to pay the businessman Gigawon 100,000.
“These Terms constitute the parties’ entire understanding and completely extinguish the parties’ rights, obligations and claims arising out of the subject matter of this litigation,” court documents state.
Mr. Hassan Zain is said to be very worried about how something like this could happen in a civilized country like Ghana.
Attempts to reach A Plus’ attorney by phone and text message did not result in a response.
