President of the Ghana Pentecostal Charismatic Council (GPCC), Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has urged politicians to refrain from seducing voters with money and instead allow voters to decide who leads them. advised.
He says vote buying is rampant and appears to be normal.
Apostle Nyamekye said financial inducements could cloud voters’ judgment and influence their choice of candidates.
He spoke after a closed-door meeting with the Election Commission on March 13.
“Elections create tension so we want to appeal to political parties to put Ghana first. Political parties need to put together a strategy, but if they believe that strategy will dominate a peaceful election, we would like to appeal to political parties to put Ghana first. We should not trample on the principles we know.”
“We are also aware of the monetization of elections that is taking place in our country. We appeal to Ghanaians to respect Ghana and not to deceive people by giving them money just to vote in elections. “Let’s get people to vote because of issues, policies and manifestos, rather than forcing people to do so with money,” he said.
He advised police officers and other security agencies to play their roles without compromise.
Apostle Nyamekye said the GPCC recommended that the Electoral Commission strengthen the education of the public on the electoral process.
He added that the Electoral Commission should always stay ahead of politicians by proactively educating Ghanaian voters on the important information they need to know on and before voting.
“We think the EC should do more education and we all have to work in an election year like this because Ghana is our country and there is no other country. So we as Parliament will do our best to support their work. Join the board and ensure that Ghana wins, not any political party,” he added.
