Ghana is set to re-appoint Otto Addo as Black Stars coach.
The 48-year-old will leave German Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, where he is talent coach, at the end of the season.
Addo previously had a stint as Ghana coach in 2022, juggling the job with his role at Dortmund.
He led Ghana to qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup but stepped down after the West Africans were eliminated in the group stage in Qatar.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) said on Facebook that Addo “will be offered a 34-month contract” with the option of a further two years.
“It was not easy for me to make this decision, but I am very grateful and happy that the people in charge at Borussia Dortmund are allowing me to take this step,” Ando said. in a statement on Dortmund’s website., external
“It is a great privilege to be able to take on the role of coach of my national team.
“I have already gained a lot of experience in my role as [Ghana] interim coach and I look forward to the task ahead of me from the summer.”
Ando spent his entire career in Germany but won 15 international caps for Ghana and appeared at the 2006 World Cup.
The Black Stars have been searching for a new manager after Chris Hughton was sacked following their group stage exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January.
“There were some brilliant people among the coaches who applied for the position,” said GFA president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku.
“Otto was excellent in the interview process and was rated highly by the search committee, hence the decision.”
Ghana will face Nigeria and Uganda in friendlies on March 22 and 26 respectively, and the GFA added in its social media post that Dortmund will release Addo to oversee those matches.
Addo’s first competitive matches back in charge will be in June when the Black Stars play Mali and Central African Republic in 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Ghana are fourth in Group I, with three points after two games.
Meanwhile, Burkina Faso appointed Brama Traore as their new coach earlier this week, replacing Hubert Velud, and Norman Mapeza returned as Zimbabwe’s interim coach.
