The Chairman of the National Peace Council (NPC), Pastor Ernest Adu Gyamfi, cited persistent accusations of bribery and corruption against the council.
According to him, their work is a voluntary service to the nation and as a result, unwarranted insults against members should not be tolerated.
He stressed that neither he nor any other members received any compensation for their efforts.
“They don’t pay anyone at the peace conference and Ghanaians don’t understand, so they always insult us, accusing us of taking money, cars and other things.
“But we are not paid, it is just volunteer work. All the pastors are working, so any outsiders saying that the Peace Council receives money or anything is a lie.” What kind of bribe would you give someone like Archbishop Duncan-Williams?
“We didn’t even have a car, but just recently they brought us two cars. The only allowance we receive is an officer sitting allowance.
“We don’t even get a per diem. “People who insult us are just wasting their time because we’re just serving our country. That’s why when they insult us, we don’t speak up. I will remain silent,” he said in an interview with UTV’s Adekye Nsuloma on March 15, 2024.
Dr Gyamfi pointed out the irony of a council being accused of bribery when it operates purely in good faith.
The National Peace Council promotes peace in Ghana by promoting collaborative conflict resolution, institutionalizing conflict response processes, and producing transformative outcomes for social, political and societal conflicts. Facilitate the development of cooperation mechanisms between all parties in construction. Religious reconciliation and transformative dialogue.
