The Association of Islamic Professionals has welcomed the passage of the Human Sexual Rights and Promotion of Family Values Bill (Anti-LGBTI Bill) in Ghana, praising the commendable step taken by Parliament.
He also praised the National Coalition for Adequate Human Sexual Rights and Family Values for their tireless advocacy in favor of this bill.
“We express our gratitude to the yeoman efforts of the coalition made up of the Council of Chiefs of State, the Office of the Chief Imam, the Christian Council and the Catholic Bishops’ Conference, along with the various moral voices raised in support of the bill. We pay our respects and call for action to protect the cultural and moral fabric of the nation,” the association said in a press statement signed by its president Dr. Abdul Sameed Muntaka.

The association said the executive branch had become indifferent, as evidenced by the Treasury Department’s warning to the president not to assent to the bill on the spurious pretext that it could cost the country money in foreign aid and investment. I was concerned that it seemed to be happening.
For the Association, this confirmed a lack of confidence on the part of the Ministry that the Ghana Beyond Aid plan was realistic and worth pursuing.
The association therefore reiterated its call on President Akufo-Addo to sign this bill aimed at promoting and protecting proper family values and reproductive rights in Ghana.
The law requires all presidential candidates in the 2024 election to publicly declare their support for the bill and pledge to do so if it is signed into law, or in the unlikely event that the current administration He urged them to sign the bill if they were unable to do so.
He described the bill as comprehensive, having gone through a vigorous consensus-building process, reflecting Ghanaians’ perspectives on the LGBTQ threat, recognizing all relevant issues, and bringing together a wide range of interests. He said that there is scope for contributions from individuals.
“More importantly, this bill provides for professional care, counseling, and rehabilitation for LGBTQ people, who are known or suspected to belong to the LGBTQ group, or who are gay or lesbian. “to criminalize all extrajudicial attacks against persons found to be engaged in such activities,” the bill said.
They indicated that mosques and churches are ready to provide counseling support to those who sincerely want to break out of the LGBTQ trap.
