Wafalme Stars, apart from player Dennis Omollo, believe they have what it takes to reach the final of the African Games in Accra, Ghana.
Omolo starred as Wafalme defeated Burkina Faso 3-0 (25-10,25-22,25-21) in the quarter-finals on Wednesday to set up a semi-final clash with Cameroon on Friday at the Methodist University Multipurpose Hall.
Cameroon beat Chad 3-1 to reach the last four.
Omollo, who plays for Kenya Ports Authority, said:
“We have shown and proved our intention so far. We leave nothing to chance. We will push until the end. The preliminary stage showed that we are a good and united team with a very coordinated game. Cameroon is a good team, but we hope to cover up”.
Wafalme lost 3-1 to Cameroon at the African Nations Championship in Egypt last year.
On Thursday, Kenyan women’s volleyball team Malkia Strikers have a date with Gambia in one of the quarter finals.
Mali beat Algeria 3-0 on Tuesday night to top Pool “B” unbeaten and will face Gambia, who finished last in Pool “A”.
On their way to the last eight, Malkia dismantled Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo and Algeria in straight sets.
Tunisia will face Democratic Republic of Congo, hosts Ghana will play Algeria, while Egypt will face Nigeria in other quarter-final matches.
In other results, it was the end of the road for Kenyan women’s hockey team Blades as they lost 1-0 to Nigeria at the Borteyman Dome yesterday.
The result means the Blades will end the Games third without a win, with Nigeria facing Ghana in the final on Friday at the same venue.
Kenya, coached by Meshack Senge, lost to Ghana 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament which has attracted three teams.
Nigeria completed a double over Kenya, who they beat last November in Pretoria, South Africa, during the Olympic qualifiers by the same scoreline.
