Sammy Gyamfi, the Public Relations Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed doubts about the suitability of Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the 2024 elections.
Mr Gyamfi argues that Dr Bawumia’s leadership contributed to the country’s economic downturn.
In an interview with face to face upon city tv, Sammy Gyamfi, along with Umaru Sanda Amadu, labeled the Vice President “incompetent and corrupt” and held the Vice President and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo responsible for the hardships faced by Ghanaians. .
Mr Gyamfi said Dr Bawumia had played a pivotal role in the administration and could not be separated from the economic turmoil.
He criticized Dr. Bawumia’s unfulfilled promises and questioned his economic strategy in view of the significant depreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi.
“Friends” [conductors] Relevant and important, you may be a good driver, but with bad company you will fail. This sidekick, Dr. Bawumia, is a very incompetent, corrupt and ignorant sidekick. And that is why he was unable to fulfill the primary responsibility entrusted to him by President Akufo-Addo: managing the economy.
“The dollar then was GH5, now it is GHC13.50 peses. What will Bawumia be used for for importers?” Where are the strong economic fundamentals and the concrete promises he has made? Where is the path? What port did he promise to the people of Cape Coast?
“Dr Bawumia can say things like this because he has no respect for the truth. And he has no respect for the good people of this country. You should show remorse for your boss’s crimes. [President Akufo-Addo] And the entire NPP committed crimes against the Ghanaian people.
“There is no sector in this country today, no indicator that we are better today than we were in 2016 when we transferred power.”
Mr Gyamfi further criticized the government’s performance, highlighting Ghana’s downgrade to CC rating and the rise in inflation and poverty levels under its rule.
He contrasted this with Mr Mahama’s B- rating and criticized the current leadership’s inability to maintain economic stability.
“Let’s start with the economy. What was the inflation rate in December 2016? 15.4%, what is the inflation rate today? About 23% after going up to 54%. Over 800,000 Ghanaians fell into poverty because of the government’s reckless act of pressuring the central bank to print GHC45 billion in a single year, 2020.
“Today’s inflation is much worse than it was during President Mahama’s time.” [former]. Under the Mahama administration, our economy was rated B-. Today, all government credit rating agencies, Moody’s and Fitch, rate our economy as junk CC, and in some cases RD. That’s why we were logged out of the capital markets. Under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, our economy has lost credibility, compare. ”
