The General Transport and Petrochemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) has expressed concern and disappointment over the President’s decision to appoint Mr. Leon Kendon Appenten as Chairman of the Board of the Tema Refinery (TOR) Company.
GTPCWU National Chairman Bernard Owusu, speaking on behalf of the union, said in an interview with Accra-based City FM that several controversies involving the appointed chairman and which the union vehemently opposed. The company explained that it was related to a transaction that created an atmosphere of conflict.
“First of all, this appointment is very disappointing and the GTPCWU national trade union is not happy. We are also very disappointed in the president who appointed Leon Appenten as TOR board chairman.
“This is the same gentleman who shamed the government by leading a sticky Trenco deal that never saw the light of day and was riddled with fraud that even the Special Prosecutor should investigate,” he explained. did.
Union leaders say that despite his role in the Trent Accord, Leon Appenten’s nomination, if approved, would only mean that the government fully supported the Trent Accord.
“We believe that what we say is true that the government and the president support this Trentco deal. “We are very disappointed,” he said.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo reconstituted the Board of Directors of TOR with effect from March 18, 2024.
Key changes to the Board of Directors include the appointment of Mr. Leon Appenten as Chairman of the Board and the appointment of Mr. Kofi Mokumbi Tagoe as Managing Director.
